A Sign Forever

Sabbath is the sign of the everlasting covenant. The blood of the Lamb did not erase the sign — it gave us power to keep it. That is the whole argument, and it is older than the arguments made against it.

A sign is not a shadow you outgrow

A sign tells you whose you are. Circumcision marked the flesh. The Sabbath marks the week. Throughout your generations — not until a council votes, not until a later apostle is misread, not until it becomes inconvenient in the nations. Throughout your generations, that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you.

Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever.

Exodus 31:16-17 · KJV

Perpetual. For ever. The same God who cannot lie is the God who called this sign perpetual. Those grafted into Israel do not inherit a thinner covenant. They inherit the root. If the root is holy, so are the branches — and the root was never Sunday.

The Lamb and the sign

We do not keep the Sabbath in order to be forgiven. We keep it because we have been forgiven, and the forgiven walk. The Spirit was not given so that we could set aside the commandments. The Spirit was given so that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.

Romans 3:31 · KJV

Faith establishes the law. Grace is not a solvent poured on Sinai. Grace is the power to get up and walk the words that were always His. The remnant who keep the seventh day are not returning to Moses instead of Christ. They are following the Lamb wherever He goes — and He is Lord of the Sabbath still.
